Oh my – it’s 2018 already! Welcome to a whole new year, which will be full of new opportunities to capture and new obstacles to surmount.
Your business may have grown so much that you find yourself becoming a bit of a public figure. Some people love that, some people hate it. The first time I had to do a TV interview I almost threw up. You may be a fearless and inspired innovator, but when it comes to showing up on CNBC or delivering a speech, you might need a little help. Everybody does.
Lots of true innovators have exceptional minds. You don’t know what it feels like to not be great at something. But giving a keynote is hard. Media interviews are uncomfortable. So instead of mastering these vital skills, you avoid them.
Here’s a bracing perspective re-set from The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday: “Behind mountains there are more mountains. Elysium is a myth. One does not overcome an obstacle to enter the land of no obstacles. On the contrary, the more you accomplish, the more things will stand in your way. There are always more obstacles, bigger challenges. You’re always fighting uphill. Get used to it and train accordingly.”
In fact, the size and volume of the mountain(s) in your path may be the most reliable measure of your accomplishments. If 2017 was a year of exceptional growth, expect a lot of vertical climbing in 2018. New obstacles are a compliment – they’re happening because you’ve already accomplished so much.
Take a deep breath, get those crampons on, and prepare to climb the mountain of becoming a great communicator. Nothing will serve you and your vision better than developing exceptional communication skills.
If you’re willing to work to understand your audience, refine your story and learn how to tell it, you can be a very effective communicator. If you respect this vital skill, you will not fail. poseycorp is here to help you.
The view from the summit is amazing! Can’t wait for you to see it!
