“Please kill me now,” says the PR person (to herself only of course). Because the “boring old messaging” is three months old and only about one-sixteenth of the key audience has even heard it.
We are great at thinking about (and talking about) cutting edge ideas in the tech industry. We are NOT great at consistently delivering a message until everyone who must hear it has.
Politicians can be a nightmare, but they have one thing going for them as communicators. They are capable of delivering the same stump speech two hundred times. They know that’s what campaigning is.
Sometimes, repetition is a good thing. Sometimes, boring consistency is a radically innovative communications strategy. Try it! It works!
