Repetition is either a superpower or a disaster.
For example: In a media interview? Lean hard into repeating your key soundbite. If you’ve got a great soundbite you’ve got a much better chance of it getting into the final story if you say it several times.
BUT DO NOT repeat the reporter’s questions, especially the negative ones. “Are you a monopoly?” “No, we’re not a monopoly.” Do you want THAT to be the headline? Nope. You do not.
In a customer meeting: Absolutely repeat their questions, their concerns, their wish list. You can’t go too far in making sure the customer knows that you hear them and value what they said.
With your team: Yes, demonstrate that you heard their concerns. But don’t repeat the most toxic questions. Anything you say at the All Hands becomes company canon.
Repetition is always powerful – for good and for ill. Use it wisely!
