Eleven years ago, when I started poseycorp, I did not know what I did not know, and I did not know what I would never know. That may be true for all of us. The world keeps changing in ways and at speeds I’m sure many of us wouldn’t have imagined. And yet we still need to lead our teams and explain ourselves to our customers, partners, and others.
In 11 years of communications coaching, I have learned that as my clients face new challenges, I must stay nimble and alert to help them master new skills. I’ve had the joy of watching people see the light as they realize they can become great communicators.
Growing poseycorp has been amazing! And yet, it might be the hardest thing I’ve ever done professionally. In the early years, I was terrified. Business was not thriving and it took pure grit to keep moving forward. Even after I gained momentum, obstacles remained plentiful. The pandemic, for example, required a hard, fast pivot. The most vital skills I’ve acquired as a business owner are courage, resilience and perspective.
Whether you’re toiling at a startup, enduring layered management at a huge multinational company or running our own business, congratulate yourself! You have more grit, more courage, resilience, and perspective than you realize. You can use these skills as you face whatever communications challenges the rest of 2024 has in store.
