Here we are starting the second half of what has been a pretty chaotic year. It’s not just what’s going on in government, or our global and domestic economies; it’s also what’s going on in AI innovation. With acqui-hires, product announcements, and think pieces about AI’s impact on jobs, there is a lot for any tech PR leader to face!
For everyone trying to figure out how to manage and message whatever new chaos is blowing up right now, may I suggest Ryan Holiday’s The Obstacle Is The Way?
Ryan says: “Doing new things invariably means obstacles. A new path is, by definition, uncleared. . . In other words: It’s supposed to be hard. Your first attempts aren’t going to work.”
Being a tech PR leader IS hard right now. Managing executive expectations and frailties has more consequences now than perhaps EVER. We are scaling K2 every day! And I don’t see things getting easier anytime soon.
I take heart with this Ryan Holiday quote that’s on my refrigerator:
“Behind mountains there are more mountains. Elysium is a myth. One does not overcome an obstacle to enter the land of no obstacles. On the contrary, the more you accomplish, the more things will stand in your way. There are always more obstacles, bigger challenges. You’re always fighting uphill. Get used to it and train accordingly.”
Here’s to all of the strong and powerful tech PR professionals who made it through the first half of 2025. You are great mountain climbers. Wishing you stamina and good humor as you scale whatever summits the second half of the year throws at us all!
Take the risk out of being in the spotlight! I can prepare you, your teams and your leaders to tell your company’s story with confidence, shape the industry and maybe even change the world.
