Is panic a strategy?

Communication Change Leadership Professional Development

Ryan Holiday’s The Obstacle Is The Way, is the perfect read for anyone facing huge unexpected, constant change. LIKE ALL OF US RIGHT NOW. Our nervous systems may go a bit crazy, which messes with our ability to make good decisions.

Here’s Ryan on panic/anger/fear: “Does getting upset provide you with more options? Subconsciously, we should constantly be asking ourselves this question: Do I need to freak out about this?” “Panic has to be trained out. And it does not go easily. Just say: “No thank you, I can’t afford to panic.”

Panic does NOT help you through a crisis. Graceful calm, on the other hand, gives you options.

Saying to yourself, over and over again, “Calm down! Calm down!” doesn’t actually calm you down. You must use your body to calm your body. Breathe. Move. Take a walk outside. Add a daily meditation practice to store up the ability to detach.

When we can properly take care of our bodies’ reactions to a crisis we can regain the power of our minds. And don’t we all need our minds to perform and communicate as well as possible as we navigate this year?

Take the risk out of being in the spotlight! I can prepare you, your teams and your leaders to tell your company’s story with confidence, shape the industry and maybe even change the world.
