When I put together the Six Essentials for Every Leader/Communicator, it occurred to me that it would be fun to tell a story about how people do and don’t use communication skills at work.
So we’ll be spending the next issues of both poseycorp’s blog and newsletter telling the story of Clara, the super-smart but shy product manager at WidgetCo, and her colleague Marcus. Clara sees the path the company should take, but she’s going to need all of her communication skills to persuade the management team.
Communication may be a skill, but “communicator” is a role, a way of thinking and behaving that every person who expects to be successful at work must embrace. If you want to create the change you see for the world, you will spend energy and time becoming an effective leader/communicator.
Next week we’ll see how things are going for Clara, who’d much rather just type a long email than speak to a human.
