Clarity is a discipline. Sure, many of us have the skill to stand on a stage, riff on the slides we have behind us, and walk off the stage without breaking a sweat.
But delivering a clear, useful talk requires making choices. It’s about cutting away fat. It’s about creating a structure that your audience can intuitively follow. It is not about babbling. Please. Stop the babbling.
Your audience is as overwhelmed and distracted by their day jobs as you are. Give them what they need in digestible chunks they can recognize and absorb!
Set expectations, give chapter headings: “Here are the three big things we’re talking about today.” “First. . .”
Sign post: “This is the most important insight we’ve gleaned.”
Repeat your soundbites: “I’ll say it again, widgets will change every industry.”
If you want your idea to propagate in heads other than your own, you need to make it clear!
Take the risk out of being in the spotlight! I can prepare you, your teams and your leaders to tell your company’s story with confidence, shape the industry and maybe even change the world.
